Northern Illinois Academy, a secure Residential Treatment Facility in Aurora, IL, serves youth ages 6-21 with major mental health and/or developmental disabilities. NIA is accredited by the Joint Commission and licensed by the Illinois Department of Children and Family Services.

Job Overview
We are looking for a full-time Special Education Teacher. The Special Education Teacher instructs students in academic subjects and social interaction skills. The teacher will plan curriculum and prepare lesson plans and other instructional materials to meet the needs of each individual student that includes physical, emotional, and educational levels of development. Leads the multi-disciplinary team in providing best practices for students, and promotes Illinois state learning standards through well planned lessons which complement each students' individual learning style. Confers with parents/legal guardians, administrators, support service providers, and social workers to develop and implement an Individual Educational Plan (IEP) for each student.

Job Requirements
• Bachelor’s Degree in Education from an accredited College or University.
• 1 to 2 years’ experience working in a special education setting preferred.
• Illinois LBS 1 Teacher Licensure (K-12).
• CPR/First Aid Certification
• Knowledge of appropriate educational needs for all ages of students.
• Ability to identify student needs and incorporate needs into the student's IEP
• Ability to develop therapeutic relationships with children, adolescents and families.
• Skill in preparing and maintaining appropriate education records according to policy and state regulations/standards.
• Knowledge of appropriate interventions with students.
