  • Observes students for signs of disruptive behaviors such as violence, verbal outbursts, and episodes of destructiveness; seeks appropriate support for the students.
  • Teaches socially acceptable school behavior employing     Therapeutic Interventions.
  • Enhances creative thoughts of the students and promotes a desire to learn.
  • Communicates with other teachers and staff members to plan programs designed to promote educational, physical, and social development of students.
  • Completes report cards in a timely manner.
  • Performs additional duties as needed.
  • Attends scheduled/required staff meetings and trainings.

Qualifications

  • Education and Experience: Bachelors Degree in Education from a four (4) year college or University; one to two years experience working in a special education setting preferred.
  • Certifications & Licenses: State Teacher Certification; Type 10 SED Certification; CPR/First Aid Certification; Valid State driver’s license in good standing.
  • Other Requirements: TB (PPD) test within three (3) months of hire and every two (2) years thereafter.
  • Skills and Abilities: Knowledge of appropriate educational needs for all ages of students.  Ability to identify such needs and incorporate needs into the students IEP.  Ability to develop therapeutic relationships with residents and families.  Skill in preparing and maintaining appropriate education records according to policy and State regulations/standards.  Knowledge of appropriate interventions with students.

Responsibilities

Position Overview:
The BCBA works collaboratively with all service areas to implement all aspects of behavioral programming for identified students. The BCBA consults with direct care staff and supervisory staff to ensure that daily activity schedules and behavior programs are adequate to meet needs of students. The BCBA develops and implements systems for conducting reliability on behavioral programs to ensure program effectiveness. The BCBA monitors and ensures compliance with internal, state, federal, requirements as well as policies and procedures. The BCBA prepares reports and assists in the development of policies, plans, goals, and priorities; advises on trends, issues, developments, and future direction of behavioral programming. The BCBA presents a positive and professional image to all internal and external customers.

Qualifications

Skills/Requirements:

  • Master’s Degree in Psychology, Special Education or related field.
  • Certified as BCABA or BCBA, or eligible.
  • 2 years of experience minimum working with individuals with intellectual or developmental disabilities.
  • Experience with Functional Behavior Assessments and writing Behavior Support Plans.
  • Training and experience in Applied Behavior Analysis.
  • Must be able to collect, organize and present data/information clearly; utilize effective communication skills; train and direct staff; display strong clinical skills; and have a working knowledge of licensing/accrediting agency standards.
  • Ability to multi-task, prioritize, delegate, coordinate, and provide all needed follow-up. Must have experience training employees, planning, assigning and directing work.
